Right now for me it feels like 4AM! I write to you feeling a bit jet-lagged from being away last week in Costa Rica on a retreat.
The sun, the ocean, relaxation, and yoga were all worth it…and I’m totally sleepy.
Despite the jet-lag, I still got up 45 minutes before my daughters today to do my morning practice.
Why didn’t I just sleep in?
Because those minutes can transform my day, and, over time, have completely transformed my life.
Instead of waking up in the morning feeling already behind, slammed right away with demands or to-dos, I consciously cultivate a more grounded, relaxed approach to the day.
It’s not complex: I do some gentle yoga. I read a little. I practice meditation. I say some affirmations.
It makes the difference between feeling overwhelmed vs. feeling capable and sane.
I’m less likely to lose it with my girls.
I don’t sweat the small stuff as much.
I’m not trying to make them make me happy, because I’m cultivating my happy within.
And it’s not as hard as you think.
In this week’s podcast, I talk to Hal Elrod, author of The Miracle Morning, who has a truly extraordinary story about the power of a daily practice. Learn more at HalElrod.com.
